Description:
|
The international airport Venice (Marco Polo) Airport (Italian: Aeroporto di Venezia Tessera or Venezia Marco Polo) is the largest airport in the Italian city of Venice. As opposed to the airport Venice-Trevisio, which is predominantly used by flights operated by Ryanair, the airport Venice - Marco Polo is served almost exclusively by airlines operating scheduled flights. It is located 12 km from Venice and may also be reached from the city by boat.
Aer Lingus flies from the airport to Dublin, other airlines operating flights from the airport to cities in the UK include: bmi (London-Heathrow), British Airways (London-Gatwick), easyJet ( Bristol, London-Gatwick, Nottingham/East Midlands), Jet2.com (Leeds/Bradford) and Thomsonfly (London-Gatwick, Manchester). Delta Airlines operates non-stop flights to New York and Atlanta. Besides Milan-Malpensa and Rome-Fiumicino, Venice is the third Italian destination of this American airline.
The airport is linked to the nearby stations Venezia-Santa Lucia (ATVO Air Terminal; ACTV Line 5) and Mestre-Venizia (ATVO FlyBus; ACTV Linie 15). The connection between the Piazzale Roma in Venice and the airport Marco Polo is via Venice’s ACTV bus route 5 (yellow), the Mestre bus route 15 or the city bus ATVO (blue), which also operates long-distance services from and to Venice. This includes buses to the Adrian Coast and Padua from where SITA long-distance coaches also leave. By car, the airport may be reached using the exit Mestre-Villabona. Follow the bypass (Tangenziale Mestres) and the SS14 Triestina in the direction of the airport Marco Polo. There are also water taxis with regular services between the city and the airport, as well as normal taxi cabs. The old terminal building, car parks and the jetty for motor boats are linked to the airport by a free shuttle bus that goes to the new terminal.
