Description:
|
Shanghai Pudong International Airport is an international airport in the eastern part of the Pudong district in Shanghai, China. It is in the east of Shanghai 30 km from the city centre and 40 km from the older Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, which it replaced. The Chinese passenger airport was opened on the 50. Birthday of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China on 01.10.1999.
Shanghai Pudong Airport is linked to the new quarter Pudong by a monorail, the German Transrapid. Within 8 minutes, it takes passengers from the Pudong International Airport to Long Yang Road Metro Station. The two stations are linked by the Transrapid Shanghai, which was first taken into operation in 2002. Covering a distance of 30 km in 8 minutes it has a maximum speed of 430 km/h.
Shanghai Pudong Airport is served by about 50 airlines, with about 130 destination airports in national and international air traffic. Airlines include Aeroflot (Moscow-Sheremetyevo), Air Canada (Toronto-Pearson, Vancouver), Air China (Peking, Chengdu, Chongqing, Fukuoka, Ningbo, Rome-Fiumicino, Wenzhou, Yantai), Air France (Paris-Charles de Gaulle), Air India (Bangkok, Mumbai, New Delhi), Alitalia (Milan-Malpensa), All Nippon Airways (Nagoya, Osaka-Kansai, Tokyo-Narita), Asiana Airlines (Daegu, Jeju, Seoul-Incheon), China Eastern Airlines (Changsha, Diqing, Fuzhou, Hangzhou, Kunming, Los Angeles, Phuket, Siem Reap), China Southern Airlines (Changchun, Dalian, Guangzhou, Harbin, Kuala Lumpur, Sanya, Zhangjiajie, Zhuhai), Continental Airlines (Newark) [from March 26, 2007/Pending Government approval], Dragonair (Hong Kong), Finnair (Helsinki), Garuda Indonesia (Jakarta, Singapur), Korean Air (Busan, Cheongju, Gwangju), Lufthansa (Frankfurt, Munich), Qantas (Sydney, Melbourne), Royal Brunei (Bandar Seri Begawan), Shanghai Airlines (Ho Chi Minh City, Jinzhou, Macau, Phnom Penh, Qingdao, Shenyang, Shenzhen, Weihai) and United Airlines (Chicago-O’Hare, San Francisco).
Continental Airlines recently suggested a new route from Newark Liberty International Airport to Shanghai Pu Dong airport. If this is approved, then continental would be the second airline after China Eastern Airlines to fly from New York to Shanghai, and the third airline to fly direct from the United States as well as the fourth line to fly to Shanghai. Northwest Airlines is currently also applying for a China-USA route, in order to once again take on non-stop flights from Detroit.
