Nuremberg Airport is the international airport of the northern Bavarian metropolis and the second largest airport in Bavaria. As the most important provider of infrastructure in northern Bavaria, Nuremberg Airport takes up place 10, place 67 in Europe and it is the hub of Germanys second largest German airline Air Berlin. Other low-cost airlines with their base at Nuremberg airport are Cirrus airlines, Centralwings and Condor.
With a total area of 519 ha, Nuremberg Airport is about 7 km from the city centre in the north of Nuremberg where it was founded on the garlic fields of Nuremberg in April 1955.
Nuremberg Airport may be reached via the motorway A3 Cologne-Nuremberg from the junction Nuremberg-North as well as from Nuremberg city centre via the B2. Using the underground U2, Nuremberg airport may be accessed in only 12 minutes from Nuremberg central station. In the other direction, fast connections are available to the whole of the city centre of Nuremberg including the nearby historic city centre. Nuremberg Airport is also easily reached by bus, as the routes 32 and 33 run to the airport every 10 minutes and the bus station is situated centrally in front of Terminal 1 at the departures level.
