Description:

London Stansted Airport is one of the five airports in Britain’s capital city, London. It is in the county of Essex, 55 km north-east of London and was named after the nearby village Stansted Mountfitchet. As is the case for the airports Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London-Gatwick, London-Heathrow and Southampton, London-Stansted Airport also belongs to British Airways Authority (BAA).

Trains run by Network South East’s Stansted Express service go from the underground train station at the airport to Liverpool Street Station in central London. One and Central Trains also provide nationwide services to Cambridge or to the Midlands and the North. ONE Rail goes to London-Stratford and to Stations in the Lea Valley. The two coach companies, Terravision and National Express, also have a service running to Victoria Bus Station. Almost all bus services run between Stansted Airport and London Victoria or Liverpool Street in the City of London. There are also bus connections between London’s airports (Gatwick and Heathrow). The M11 motorway, which may also be accessed via the M25 ring, also provides links with London and Cambridge. From London, exit 8a and from Cambridge exit 8 both go to the airport. There are also signs on the ring road to Stansted indicating the way to the airport.

Destinations:

Although the terminal at Stansted is more modern than that at Heathrow, the regional airline Air UK was until the mid 90’s the only significant provider of scheduled flights to mainly regional connections to British and European cities. Ryan Air, represented at the airport since 1991, has only been providing cheap flights to mainland Europe since 1997. However, within only a few years it turned into the largest airline at Stansted. Regular intercontinental flights with low-cost carriers have been provided since 2004 from Stansted, for example going to Cape Town and to destinations in Asia and North America.
