Description:

Erfurt Airport is west of the city centre in the district of Bindersleben and is an approved passenger airport. The regional airport in Erfurt serves passengers from the Thuringia area and the neighbouring regions. Anatolia, Mallorca, Bulgaria, and Tunisia are the most popular destinations from Erfurt airport.
The bus route 99 links the bus station in Erfurt with the airport (journey time is about 15 minutes). Since the beginning of 2005, the airport in Erfurt has a direct service (tram line 4) to the main train station in Erfurt; this offers passengers an easy connection to the airport. Since the fist part of the A 71 from the motorway was taken into operation the airport also has a direct road route from the south. The connection to the north in the direction of Sömmerda should be complete in 2007.
Air Berlin, Cirrus Airlines and Condor are the low-cost airlines resident at Erfurt airport. Walter airlines (Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne) and Lufthansa’s airline Cirrus airlines (munich are responsible for scheduled services. Charter services generate the most passenger numbers predominantly flying to destinations around the Mediterranean. Air Berlin flies from Leipzig to Djerba. The growth in passenger numbers from 506,000 (2003) to 546,975 (2004) was thanks to the daily Ryan air flight from Leipzig to London-Stansted, which alone was responsible for around 70,000 passengers, this connection was discontinued in January 2005.
The airport operator is Flughafen Erfurt GmbH, which belongs to 95% to the Free State of Thuringia and to 5% to the city of Erfurt.
