Description: Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, also known by the name of Detroit Metro Airport or Metro Airport, is an airport in Romulus, Michigan, near Detroit. Other synonyms are Wayne County Detroit Metropolitan Airport, Detroit Metro Wayne County, Detroit Metro, Metro or simply DTW.

As one of the biggest airports in the USA, it is the main hub of Northwest Airlines and its Northwest Airlink partners, Mesaba Airlines and Pinnacle Airlines. It also serves as hub of Spirit Airlines.

Since 2005, Detroit Metropolitan Airport has held place 5 of the busiest airports in the United States according to passenger numbers. Worlwide it currently takes up place 20. According to the ACI ranking it is at place 11 of the biggest airports in North America and has 17th place worldwide.
Location: The terminals Michael Berry and LC Smith of the Detroit Metropolitan Airport can be reached on Interstate I-94, the McNamara Terminal directly from the I-275. When John D. Dingell Drive is a 1999 built Expressway from the I-94 to Eureka Road to the McNamara terminal to terminal. Among the other local roads with access to the airport and the surrounding area include Goddard Road, North Line Road, Ecorse Road, Middle Belt Road, Merriman Road and Winding Road.

Major car rental companies such as Alamo, Enterprise and Hertz are represented at the airport. Local companies such as Metro Airport taxis and Metro Cars offer a taxi and limousine service. The Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) bus routes connect with the 125 (Westbound) and 285 (North Bound) hourly to the airport with the rest of Metro Detroit. Even between the terminals there is a shuttle connections.
History: Although it was completed and opened in September 1929, the first landing at Detroit airport was on 22.02.1930. In 1947 Detroit-Wayne Major Airport was renamed and a three year extension phase followed. During this time, the majority of commercial air traffic was transferred to the smaller Detroit City Airport, now Coleman Young International Airport north-west of Detroit, and the larger Willow Run Airport more than 20 miles west of the city and 10 miles west of Wayne County Airport and operated from there.
Destinations: In 1958 the airport was given its current name and since then American airlines and 4 other large airlines have been operating flights from Detroit airport. Republic Airlines have been using the airport as hub since 1984 and since the fusion with Northwest Airlines in 1986, have been extending this. Transpacific links were taken up in 1987 with non-stop flights to Tokyo. Now, airlines represented at Detroit Metro Airport include America West, British Airways, Comair - Delta, Continental, Delta Air Lines, KLM, Southwest, US Airways and United Airlines.
