Description:
|
Aeroporto di Catania, (Catania Airport ), is located in the south of Catania in Italy, the second largest city in Sicily.
With a total of 5.192.697 passengers, the airport in Catania is the busiest on the island ahead of Palermo and was also the fifth biggest Italian airport in 2006.
As the terminal building, originally constructed in the 70’s to handle a capacity of 700.000 passengers, is no longer large enough to cope with growing passenger numbers, a new and decidedly bigger terminal is under construction and due to be opened at the beginning of 2007.
There are two helicopter ports belonging to the Italian marine fighters in the military part of the airport. The heliport is, however, also used by the police and civil emergency organisations.
The airlines using Catania-Fontanarossa include: Air Berlin, Air Malta, Alitalia, British Airways, Hapag-Lloyd Flight, LTU and Lufthansa
