Birmingham International Airport, in the West Midlands, is located about 11 miles east of the city centre near the town of Solihull. It is one of the 5 major British airports according to traffic volume, attributable to the fact that Birmingham and its greater city area is the second largest city in the United Kingdom.

The airport is situated on the M 42 and the A42 towards Coventry. Motorists coming from the M42 towards Birmingham should take the exit number 6 and then follow the signs to the airport.
Those arriving by train should travel as far as the main railway station Birmingham New Street Station, using for example the West Coast Main Line from London to Edinburgh, and then take the free shuttle service Air-Rail Link, which connects the station with the airport in just 2 minutes.
There are also several daily regular local public buses with services from morning until evening as well as coach services for example from Solihull, Coventry, Tamworth or Atherstone that serve the airport.

Birmingham Airport has 2 terminals. From Terminal 1, 32 airlines and charter airlines serve various destinations worldwide. Regular scheduled flights are operated by Aer Lingus to Dublin, Air India to Amritsar and Delhi, Pakistan with Islamabad Airlines, Continental serving New York or Lufthansa with flights to Frankfurt. Charter airlines with regular services particularly during the holiday season leaving from Terminal 1 are for example: Thomsonfly flights to Alicante, Faro, Goa, Heraklion or Puerto Plata; First Choice Airways with numerous flights going for example to Arrecife, Monastir, Sharm El Sheikh or Zakynthos; or My Travel Airways with flights to Malaga, Palma, or Rhodes. Also flying from Terminal 1 are the low-cost carriers such as Bmibaby with flights going for example to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Prague or Rome; Easyjet serving Geneva and Grenoble or Ryanair, with flights to Dublin.
There are currently only 8 airlines leaving and arriving at Terminal 2. From here Air France flies to Paris; KLM to Amsterdam; Flywhoosh to Dundee; Brussels Airlines to Brussels; Swiss to Zurich; Eastern Airways to Inverness and Newcastle. The low-cost carrier Flybe flies for example to Glasgow, Hanover, Split or Toulouse, and the charter company XL Airways operates seasonal flights to Corfu, Kalamata and Santorini.
