Description:
|
Antwerp International Airport is an airport in the city of Antwerp in Belgium.
Antwerp Airport is a modern airport, which, besides general air traffic, also provides inter-European flights. There are regular, often daily flights to London, Rotterdam, Manchester, Jersey and Milan. Innsbruck and Graz are also served. Amongst the airlines based at Antwerp airport are: Discovery, VLM Airlines and Welcome Air.
The numbers of passengers and flight operations have decreased compared with former years. For reasons of environmental protection, and due to competition from other means of transport and airports, less charter aeroplanes now take-off and land here.
Antwerp airport is located 2 km from the city centre and is easily accessible via the nearby Berchem railway station, which is linked up with the national and international railway system (TGV). Located at a distance of about 2 km is the motorway, providing access to Germany, France and the Netherlands.
Antwerp Airport was transferred from Belgian Airports and Airways to the Flemish region. During this time (1989 - 1991), the company was responsible for the management of the airport on behalf of the Flemish government.
