Fleet :
Varig’s fleet consists of approximately equal numbers of freight planes and passenger aircraft. The freight fleet includes 4 Boeing 747-100, 4 Boeing 747-200, 5 Boeing 757-200, 2 McDonnell Douglas DC 10-30, and 2 McDonnell Douglas MD-11. The passenger planes serve 16 passengers and are a Boeing 737-300 and 3 Boeing 767-300s.

History:
The Brazilian airline Varig (Viacão Aérea RIo-Grandense) was founded back in 1927 by Otto Ernst Meyer. Through skilful acquisitions, Varig in the next decades developed into the largest airline in Brazil and South America, and remained so until 2005. In 2005 Varig went bankrupt and since being taken over by GOL only flies on very few routes, most of them within Brazil. Varig is however gradually taking on old routes again under its new name VRG Linhas Aéreas.

Network:
From its hubs in Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre and Rio, Varig serves primarily airports on the South American continent. The focus is on domestic Brazilian flights, for example to Recife, Fortaleza, Florianopolis or Brasilia. South American destinations that are served regularly are for example Caracas and Bogota. Outside South America, Varig for example flies to London, Rome, Frankfurt and Paris.
