Established in 1985, Shanghai Airlines is the first commercial airline with limited liability in China, which is responsible for its own operational profits and loss.

The smooth operation of Shanghai-Macao scheduled services and Shanghai-Phnom Penh, Vladivostok ,Ho Chi Minh City scheduled service and the South-east Asia charter services clearly demonstrate that Shanghai Airlines has reached new high in its overall strength of operational management. Shanghai Airlines has achieved satisfactory economical and social benefits through its excellent safety records, high-quality service standards and effective operational management. Since 1996 Shanghai Airlines has gained profit in 6 consecutive years and its total transportation turnover in 2001 ranks the 6th among the domestic air carriers. Moreover, the Company?s total profit amount in 2002 came out at the top list in aviation business of China.
Upon the approval of Shanghai Municipal Government and General Administration of Civil Aviation of China, Shanghai Airlines is renamed Shanghai Airlines Co., Ltd. on Nov. 1st 2000 .As of October 11th, 2002, Shanghai Airlines officially started to issue shares in Shanghai stock market.
