LTU GmbH is a German scheduled airline based at Dusseldorf International Airport. The airline was founded on 20.10.07 in Frankfurt under the name of "Lufttransport Union (LTU)“. Founder was the businessman Kurt Conle from Duisburg. Dusseldorf has been the base of the company since 1961.
LTU started operating chartered flights in 1956 with a Vickers Viking. The first large aicraft of the type Lockheed L-1011 TriStar was delivered on 29.05.1973, and Boeing 757, Boeing 767 and McDonnell Douglas MD-11 TriJet followed. In 1995, the entire fleet was changed to comprise aircraft of the type Airbus. The LTU fleet is considered the most modern fleet worldwide and until today there have been no serious incidences on flights. According to statistics, LTU is the fifth most safe airline. In summer 2006, LTU flew with 26 machines of the type Airbus A320-214 (11), Airbus A321-211 (4), Airbus A330-223 (8) and Airbus A330-322 (3).
