History:
The Australian low-cost airline Jetstar was founded in 2003 in Melbourne, as a subsidiary of the large national airline Qantas Airways. In 1992, the airline had already operated under the name Impulse Airlines and enjoyed great success on the Australian market. In 2003, the airline was taken over by Qantas.

Jetstar at first concentrated on providing domestic flights and began scheduled services on 25th May 2004, after entering the Australian media world with a strategic advertising campaign. The subsidiary company then developed its area of business independently of Quantas and, on 1st December, began operating flights on the route from 4 Australian cities to Christchurch, New Zealand. 6 days later, on 7th December, the airline announced that it was to provide low-cost flights to Europe and the United States.

In the meantime, Qantas also founded the airline Jetstar Asia, with its hub in Singapore, another subsidiary concentrating mainly on the East Asian market. Since July 2006 both airlines now fly under one roof and may be booked on the same website.

Network:
Jetstar flies mainly to destinations in the south and east of Australia, but also serves a destination in the USA (Honululu ). More destinations in the USA and in Europe are being planned (summer 2007). In cooperation with the airline Jetstar Asia, the airline serves 44 different airports and these are listed in a shared timetable. These include: Canberra, Sydney, Darwin, Brisbane, Hamilton Island, Adelaide, Hobart, Perth, Denpasar, Osaka, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok , Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City.
