Hapagfly is based at Hannover airport and until 2005 was known under the name of Hapag-Lloyd Flug GmbH. The company is a subsidiary of TUI AG. In 1972 the airline was founded by Hapag-Lloyd AG as a subsidiary company and is now used mainly for international flights.
Since 2003, Hapag Lloyd serves destinations in southern and eastern Europe, North Africa and the Canary Islands; long-haul routes in the Caribbean have however been abandoned. Hapagfly was one of the first airlines worldwide to be ISO 9002 certified, and with this the company introduced the standard into the field of charter flights. A Boeing 727-100 with 125 seats first took off on 30.03.1973, flying south. The maiden flight from Hamburg to Ibiza was fully booked.
