History:
The national airline of Venezuela, Consorcio Aeronauticas Venezolano de Industrias y Servicios Aereos (Conviasa), was founded on 31 March 2004 in the capital, Caracas. After Viasa, the previous state airline discontinued flight operations in January 1997, after 37 years of business due to financial difficulties, the government began building up a new national airline in 2001. After being granted a licence, the airline was officially inaugurated by decree by the president of Venezuela, Chavez, on 30th March 2004. The carrier has since primarily served destinations in Venezuela, but plans to rebuild its network of routes and even add destinations in Europe.
|
Network:
Conviasa’s network is still under construction; within Venezuela, Caracas the airline serves the airports of Barcelona, El Vigia, Maracaibo, Porlamar, Puerto Ayachucho or San Fernando regularly. In addition, the airline also offers some international connections, for example, to Grenada and Port of Spain.
