History:
The South Korean airline Asiana was established on 17th February 1988 in Seoul by the conglomerate Kumho Asiana Group and is now the 40th largest airline in the world. Since 1st March 2003, the South Korean carrier has belonged to the popular Star Alliance and thereby reaffirms its position as a leading provider of scheduled flights to Asian destinations, especially on the Chinese mainland. In 2007, the airline was taken up by the British consulting firm Skytrax, in their review of the quality of global airlines and ranked in the top 5 most popular airlines along with Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.

Asiana has a global route network with more than 60 different destinations, but flies primarily to destinations in Asia.
