History:
The private French-Polynesian airline Air Tahiti was founded in 1953 under the original name Reseau Aerien Interinsulaire in Papeete. After only a short time, in 1958 a takeover by the former French airline TAI took place, also resulting in the name change in 1970 to Air Polynesia. Once this company in 1987 likewise sold its share to private local investors, the airline was given its present name.

Air Tahiti operates only regionally and flies regularly from its base in Papeete to over 30 different destinations in French Polynesia, such as Anaa, Gambier, Hao, Mataiva, Takaroa, Ua Pou, Tubuai, Moorea Kaukura,. The sole international destination is the airport of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, served since April 2007.
